(Doghobble) Looking for a unique Native shrub to add to the garden? PAISLEY PUP™ Leucothoe is for you. This broadleaf evergreen is not your typical native. It puts on a spectacular display of changing colors in shades of green, pink, white, bronze and yellow. In spring to early summer, PAISLEY PUP™ Leucothoe is decorated with fragrant, dangling bell-shaped blooms that resemble lily of the valley flowers which attract pollinators. PAISLEY PUP™ requires acidic soil and regular moisture, although it shows some adaptability to other soil conditions. Growing 3-4 feet high and 4-5 feet wide, it is hardy in zones 5-8 and does best in part sun. Pruning is generally not needed, as it blooms on old wood, but branches can be removed if desired. The stems of PAISLEY PUP™ grow in a unique zig-zag shape which gives it its common name of ‘Doghobble’ which means that the interlacing branches would keep dogs from getting through. PAISLEY PUP™ Leucothoe would be a great specimen or foundation plant, a low hedge, or a great addition to the native garden. It is not only unique, but it also has excellent deer resistance. PAISLEY PUP™ Leucothoe is a Proven Winners® ColorChoice® Shrub.
